The following are general recommendations, not the only search coils which will work for a specific purpose.

Depth / Unmasking

As a general rule low frequencies are recommended for depth, high frequencies for unmasking.

SEARCH AREAS

Ploughed fields

10 - 13 inch DD or dual 12 inch and larger dual coils (any frequency).

Grass Meadow

Low grass: 13 inch DD or larger (any frequency).

High grass: 12 inch dual or larger (5.7 kHz).

Beach

13 inch DD (5.7 kHz).

Park

10 inch DD (18 kHz) or 9 or 11.5 inch Silver Scout (24 kHz).

Woodland

10 inch - 13 inch DD or dual 12 inch and larger dual coils (low frequency).

SEARCH CONDITIONS

Highly mineralized

13 inch DD or larger low frequency search coil such as dual 12 inch (5.7 kHz).

Highly conductive

Low frequency search coils only.

Trashy sites

9 inch and 11.5 inch Silver scout (24 kHz) as first choice. 10 inch DD (18 kHz).

Wet / Muddy soil

DD, low frequency.

SPECIFIC TARGETS

Artefacts, and relics

Low frequency coils. 13 inch DD, Dual 12 inch or larger dual search coils.

Hoards

Dual 12 inch (5.7 kHz) or larger size.

Hammered Silver

9 or 11.5 inch Silver Scout (24 kHz) or 10 inch DD (18 kHz).

Gold coins and gold nuggets

9 inch or 11.5 inch Silver Scout search coil (24 kHz) or 10 inch DD (18 kHz)

SPECIAL PURPOSES

Unmasking

9 inch or 11.5 inch Silver Scout search coil (24 kHz) or 10 inch DD (18 kHz)

Very deep targets

Dual 12 inch (5.7 kHz) + larger search coils.

Note:
There is not a low enough setting for the LC-MC control on the 5.7 kHz low frequency to show the Green color for low conductors. For Green color, a 10 kHz or high frequency is required.
